Southport on the 4th

Okay these are a little late but I wanted to post them anyway.  One of my favorite holidays besides Christmas and Easter is the 4th of July.  When I was a kid my family would travel to the coastal town of Southport NC to visit with grandparents and cousins and go to the huge independence day celebration the town would put on.  Southport still has the celebration and it’s as big as ever, although every year we would say, “the parade wasn’t quite as good as last year”.  This year I decided to go down by myself and shoot just for myself.  It’s nice to not have any pressure of getting people’s information or getting back to have the photos up before a deadline (maybe that’s why this post is so late).  It was fun and I ended up with some cool shots but I don’t think the parade was quite as good as last year. : )

Not that anyone is asking but here’s a photo tip: If you want some good candid shots of parade things, always arrive a few hours before the parade begins and go to where the participants are lining up to begin the parade.  Then when the parade starts, hang out a little while at the very beginning.

Just seeing those pictures reminds me of all the times we were there for the 4th. I miss those little Sudan cars. Of course all the nights we had to stay in Grandma’s house with no A/C and it was hotter inside than outside I don’t miss at all!
