I can’t believe the summer is almost over and we have a second grader! We are so thankful he enjoys going to school (most of the time).

And there’s Andrew. His preschool starts next week. I didn’t get a shot of it but when he got back in the van after dropping off Luke he was real quiet and a little sad. So sweet.

Recently Luke participated in the RA’s mission fair and pine car race. The RA’s had to come up with a way to share Christ with others and then document it in order to compete in the race. Luke baked cookies and then placed them in a bag with a note for the children at the Raleigh Rescue Mission. Doing a project like this was right up his alley. I think the photos below truly show his heart in what he was doing. Andrew got in on some of the action too. It was very hard for him to understand why he couldn’t eat any of the cookies.
As for the car, we started out building a “carrot car”. I have to admit the idea wasn’t completely original. A good friend of mine made one when we were in the cub scouts. I mentioned it to Luke and since he loves carrots he thought that was a cool idea. We were ready to paint it when I found out the nose was illegal. The carving on the bottom side of the nose would allow his car to start rolling before the starting mechanism was all the way down (I promise I didn’t know). The Saturday before the race we were building another car! We kept it simple and it worked out. Luke actually won his age group within our church. We got to race the next weekend against the other winners within the Raleigh Baptist Association and lost out in the first round.
The whole thing was a cool experience. I haven’t done a car race like that since I was in the cub scouts and it was neat to experience it again with my son. Maybe the carrot car will make it’s debut next year. :)

Whenever Andrew gets quiet while playing in the bedrooms we know something is up. Jatana went to check on him only to find him in Luke’s room trying to make a snow angel in a big pile of “snow” that he dumped out of a small bean bag. That’s right, a “small” bean bag. My sister and her family have a giant bean bag that I don’t even want to think about splitting open. Clean up was a three step process. I scooped up as much as I could with a dust pan. Then I broke out the shop vac to get the majority of what was left. I finished it off with the Dyson (awesome vacuum by the way). The static electricity made it even harder to clean up. As I was scooping with the dust pan little balls were popping all over the place. Ahhh the joy. :)

We have been enjoying the recent snowfall! I love it when it’s coming down and everything is white but as soon as the roads start clearing up a bit and the grass starts poking through I’m over it. We had fun while it lasted. We even ventured out to my brother-in-law’s on Sunday to have some good family time. 4 wheel drive sure is nice.
