NC State Fair!

Sometimes when we do things like this I feel like I should be shooting more. And sometimes it’s just good to be dad and take it all in without worrying about f-stops and shutter speeds. Don’t get me wrong, I love to shoot. It’s just that there are some things you don’t take in when looking through the lens. We played games, rode rides (the boys did anyway) and spent a small fortune on hot dogs, french fries, italian sausage, and deep fried treats. It was fun!

1st Day of 2nd Grade!

I can’t believe the summer is almost over and we have a second grader! We are so thankful he enjoys going to school (most of the time).

And there’s Andrew. His preschool starts next week. I didn’t get a shot of it but when he got back in the van after dropping off Luke he was real quiet and a little sad. So sweet.

Mission Fair and Race

Recently Luke participated in the RA’s mission fair and pine car race. The RA’s had to come up with a way to share Christ with others and then document it in order to compete in the race. Luke baked cookies and then placed them in a bag with a note for the children at the Raleigh Rescue Mission. Doing a project like this was right up his alley. I think the photos below truly show his heart in what he was doing. Andrew got in on some of the action too. It was very hard for him to understand why he couldn’t eat any of the cookies.

As for the car, we started out building a “carrot car”.  I have to admit the idea wasn’t completely original. A good friend of mine made one when we were in the cub scouts. I mentioned it to Luke and since he loves carrots he thought that was a cool idea. We were ready to paint it when I found out the nose was illegal. The carving on the bottom side of the nose would allow his car to start rolling before the starting mechanism was all the way down (I promise I didn’t know). The Saturday before the race we were building another car! We kept it simple and it worked out. Luke actually won his age group within our church. We got to race the next weekend against the other winners within the Raleigh Baptist Association and lost out in the first round.

The whole thing was a cool experience. I haven’t done a car race like that since I was in the cub scouts and it was neat to experience it again with my son. Maybe the carrot car will make it’s debut next year.  :)
